- Classic Kylie
This is an excellent compilation if you are interested in discovering Kylie's early work before she became a superstar with hits like 'Can't Get You Out of My Head' and 'Slow'.
This covers Kylie's first ten years of making pop music, and if you think she does it well now, her early stuff is equally good.
This two-disc compilation features classics like 'I Should Be So Lucky', 'Better the Devil You Know', 'Shocked', 'What Do I Have To Do?', 'Step Back In Time' and her covers of 'Celebration', 'The Locomotion' and 'Give Me A Little More Time'.
It also features Kylie's underrated material for the Deconstruction label, including 'Confide In Me' and 'Did It Again'; songs considered more avant-garde for Kylie, yet they are perfect pop masterpieces with slightly more edge than we would expect from Kylie.
There are also a number of bonus remixes, making this a generous compilation.
I agree with Thunderhexed that although there is 'Ultimate Kylie' out there, this collection is equally listenable. 'Ultimate Kylie' only gives a fair sampling of Kylie's early work while focusing more on her post-2000 career.
Kylie has amassed an impressive body of work, and I highly recommend this collection. In fact, I consider it one of Kylie's essential CDs.

- This cd re-ignited my passion for Kylies work!
I remember ver distinctly back in the day when Kylie's locomotion was all the rage on the radio. For my birthday my mother bought me Kylie's first album on cassette which I still have to this day. When her second cd, "Enjoy Yourself" was released, i picked it up, after that, Kylie was not heard from again in the U.S. It wasn't until the release of her "Fever" cd that I had thought anything about her. Upon hearing the bonus track "Butterfly", I knew there was much more to be learned. While in the cd store one day I came across this greatest hits cd, so I picked it up. It sparked a whole new love affair with Kylie. Within a period of about 6 months I ordered every album she released in the UK and Australia, every remix cd available, and even found the companion dvd to this greatest hits package. Kylie has DEFINATELY pushed Madonna out of the limelight for me. Kylie's music is just as pure and fun as her voice is smooth. If you can find the companion dvd to the greatest hits disc it's WELL worth it. It includes rare interviews, alternate video versions, behind the scenes video shoots(with a cameo by sister Danni) as well as a wonderful photo slide show that plays along to an instrumental verison of "Turn It Into Love", which, available on her debut disc, was only a big hit in Japan, other than my bedroom. Along came the Ultimate Kylie cd and dvd, which, of course I purchased, but I still find myself going back to this compilation for some classic Kylie. YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!! The remix bonus disc is awesome too, Hi-lights on that disc are the Movers n Shakers mixes of Better the Devil You know and What Do I have to DO..sure , peak time, club floor fillers modernized for today!

- Should Be Titled: "What America Missed Out On"
Yeah, we got a taste of Kylie back in the late 80's when she scored three top 40 hits, but after the US failure of "Enjoy Yourself", she stayed overseas where her career was booming. In the UK alone Kylie has scored nearly 30 top 10 hits which is mind boggling and this collection captures most of them *of course with the exception of the hits from "Fever", "Light Years" and "Body Language."*
I'm a big Britney fan, but Britney has nothing on Kylie. She's done many different types of music. From her late 80's and early 90's SAW dance pop and her great cover songs, to her experimental 90's pop and later disco/techno music, she's the princess of pop. "I Should Be So Lucky", "Locomotion" and "Got To Be Certain" started it all and are still some of her best songs. They're poppy and sweet as heck, but some of the best ear candy ever recorded. "Better the Devil You Know" and "Step Back In Time" are classic dance songs and were a hint into things to come. Ballads like "Especially For You", "Tears On My Pillow" and "Say the Word" are beautiful *although Kylie is suited better for the dance music.* Later songs like "Breathe" and "Did It Again" are good, but I enjoy her earlier music better.
For any American Kylie fan that missed out on all of this, this album is an essential! One of the best and most complete collections of pop music you can buy. Yeah, "Fever" was great and got her attention in the states again, but there was a lot more before that. ;)

- Great package!
At first, I hesistated to buy this album, but I didn't regret buying it! Being a fan of Kylie's current music, I thought I would never appreciate this one! It's like taking a trip down memory lane, hearing all the cheesy pop ditties Kylie sang to earn herself a place in the pop world. These songs are reminiscent of Madonna's early work, but Kylie's songs are much more shallow, fun, light. It even includes a 2nd cd of her work with Deconstruction, bREATHE, dID it AGAIN, CONFIDE IN ME and PUT YOURSELF IN MY PLACE showcases Kylie at her creative best! It also includes remixes of her past hits perhaps to show the relevance of Kylie's early work in the new millenium in an ever-changing pop landscape. it also has a 28-page booklet complete with beautiful pictures, informative liner notes on each single release (and all the covers of the singles even!)and a brief story of how Kylie's musical journey started! The music stands for itself alone--it's fun, happy, it's vintage kylie! I wouldn't change a thing!

- great from start to finish
this cd starts off with the innocent and cute "i should be so lucky" and as it continues the advancement of kylie and her style and identity become clear.
it features all of her early hits and a couple of rare highlights ("made in heaven" with all of it's comparisons to belinda carlisle's hit "heaven is a place on earth" and the beautiful mid-tempo song "say the word - i'll be there"). Of course the highlights are the singles including the DNA mix of "shocked", the duet with ex Jason "especially for you" which can be too soppy to bear on occasion, "give me just a little more time", "did it again" and "confide in me" are my personal favourites. the remixes are worthwhile but don't buy the CD just for them!
