Nobody can sing Shakira's songs, except herself. Don't buy
tributes at all!
Wow.The people that decided to make this tribute definitely deserve to be shot. This tribute, of course is terrible. There are alot of terrible tribute albums circulating these days. So, in my defense, I have to say this album was a gift.Of course I couldn't understand why one group would decide to make a tribute album to Shakira, especially since only new songs were covered (except for Estoy Aqui). The girl who sings can't sing in English or Spanish, so is she from China?? She couldn't even pronounce any of the words in Spanish.Sad, very sad.The real slap in the face is what is printed on the back of the cd: "Shakira is given respect on this AMAZING tribute record. This disc is a must have for the true believers.Enjoy!" Are you kidding me??? So obviously the people that made this were looking to scam a couple of bucks from some gullible Shakira fans.On that note, I do have something positive to say. Most of the arrangements are direct rip offs of the originals of course, but there is ONE, and only ONE thing I actually liked. The distortion on the guitar for Te Dejo Madrid actually sounds cool.Other than that, this disc pretty much blows.C'est tout, c'est fini!
When I first saw this cd, foolishly masquerading under the name, "TRIBUTE," to Shakira...I at first didn't buy it, thinking there was no point buying it because it wasn't even Shakira singing the songs. However, I decided to pick it up today thinking it would be a cool item to have in my collection. Hell, I have everything else..why not get this too? Well..it appears that my first instincts where correct. I'm still happy I have it, it's a collectors item...I GUESS. I'm usually pretty nice about things, but to be blunt..in all honesty...this album..sucks. The singer's voice just doesn't match up with the songs. I read in another review about how it shouldn't be called a tribute, seeing as it covers only new songs..save estoy aqui. Right on. If you're going to make a tribute album, it should contain older songs. Especially seeing as Shakira's older songs are her best.
Here's what I feel about each track-
1. Whenever Wherever-As soon as the singer belts out the "oohs" in the beginning of the song, I want to cringe. Pretty much, I'm not sure WHAT song she's singing. It's not Whenever Wherever, to be sure.
2. Objection Tango-When I heard the instruments in the beginning, to be quite honest, I laughed. And, I may be mistaken, but in the rap part it sounds like she says, "tango is not for free," rather than "three," which is the correct word. I may, however, be mistaken.
3. Eyes Like Yours-The instruments sound like the MIDI version of Ojos Así. They would've been better off just using Shakira's. And I was quite interested with the fact that she's, "oh..you know I have SHeen."
4. Underneath Your Clothes-Ok, the instruments are improving at this part of the song, anyways. I don't enjoy hearing someone besides Shakira singing this song, though.
5. Rules-I'm dying to know what instruments they're using. This song's instruments almost sound like those random songs that come on keyboards that you can press, "play.." and it'll play a tune for you. That's the only way I can describe it.
6. The One-Aside from the fact that they called the song, "One," and I'd like to take a marker and put a "the," in front of it.. This sounds like a karaeoke night recording.
7. Ready for the Good Times-NO. NO. NO. NO. All wrong.
8. Fool-They tried being original by changing the electric guitar in the beginning, but failed miserably.
9. Te Dejo Madrid-Alright, I actually REALLY like the guitar in this one. I'll give them that. The guitar is cool. I still prefer the original, however.
10. Estoy Aquí-C'MON. The ONE old song on the tribute...and they couldn't do a LITTLEE bit better? un poco? por favor? No. Their version of this song does not deserve to be called "Estoy Aquí"
11. Que Me Quedes Tu-hmm..kind of cool music...but it also kind of sounds like a video game
12. Suerte-Why did they make the music different than Whenever Wherever? Well..I kind of like the background music on here. I don't know what language she's speaking though. Doesn't really sound like Spanish.
Bottom line..unless you're buying it for the sole purpose of adding it to your collection, which is what I did...don't bother. It's a waste of money. Go buy a Shakira CD instead.
I only listened to the samples, but from what I have heard, it is terrible! The singer sounds like she is whining!
I normaly enjoy tributes and remixes to the singers I love. However, this CD sounds like a terrible country singer backed up by a karoke machine!
